My early work was designed to illustrate various publications written by my husband, Mark. Back in the 90s (and considering the use of photocopiers to make up pamphlets and newsletters), these necessarily had to be black and white. I found that pen and ink drawings provided the best medium, and this continued, even into the e-book era. My pen of choice was a technical drawing pen, my favourite make was Zebra Drafix (purchased in the UK, not found them over in Canada) in the 01 size. I bought a whole box of these before I left the UK and am still using them, 13 years later…very long-lasting. Mostly the drawings used dots and lines for shading (pointillism without the accuracy). It is truly amazing how much detail can be implied by a few ink dots.
